The Litter Project :: 2000-2004
This collaborative effort (inititated by Caleb Coppock) has spanned the globe with participants and litter from Poland, Germany, South Africa, India and the United States. Through interactive gallery showings and workshops, the public is invited to participate. A 2" by 3" re-sealable plastic bag is the canvas and the content come from urban life. Litter, discarded objects, magazines, advertising, packaging, plastic and metal pieces, organic material and personal items are gathered and examined. Participants are invited to apply their artistic instincts by creating small compositions from the source materials. Some focused on patterns or colors or objects themselves while others created narratives with imagery. This analysis of the small and discarded allows us to reflect on our urban surroundings. The presentation of the compositions as a group allows for a global representation of the urban life. |
